Eight men reported to be receiving treatment from IGMH

Firefighters have extinguished the fire that broke out in the T-Jetty region of capital city Malé, over an hour after the fire broke out.

The cause of the fire still remains unclear; it was reported at around 03:40pm.

RaajjeMV understands that the fire broke out while an oil bowser was refueling a speedboat docked at the T-Jetty.

It is believed that the spark was created due to a lit cigarette, however, authorities are yet to confirm this.

Eight men were rushed to Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) due to burns sustained in the fire, and two are reported to be in serious condition.

While the police revealed that no arrests have been made thus far in the incident, the area was cordoned off and individuals in the area were urged to move to a safer region.

Minister of Defense and National Security Mariya Ahmed Didi and Minister of Home Affairs Sheikh Imran Abdulla arrived at the site shortly after the broke out, and were later joined by President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.

The speedboat where the fire sparked sank after a while and there are reported oil leaks in the region.
