The fire broke out on Monday evening

A fire has broke out in the T-Jetty region of capital city Malé.

While the fire is to have broke out at around 3:40pm, the origin and cause of fire are unclear; one speedboat and two oil bowsers are to have caught fire.

Officers of MNDF and Maldives Police Service (MPS) were dispatched to the area immediately.

While the fire is reported to have spread "aggressively," officers quickly began work to move other vehicles from the area.

While the area has been cordoned off, individuals in the area have been urged to move to a safer region.

Five individuals were rushed to Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) due to burns sustained in the fire.

Fire incidents have been on the rise recently, with a disastrous fire inside a chemical warehouse in Henveiru-ward of the capital taking one life and affecting hundreds on 20 September.
