Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid has met with former Prime Minister of Canada Jean Chretein.
The two met on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York.
During the meeting, Minister Shahid thanked former Prime Minister Chretien for his constant support for the democratic process in Maldives and they also discussed exploring further areas of cooperation.
Minister Shahid also met Khalid al Khalifa, the Foreign Minister of Bahrain, to discuss the benefits of the air service agreement to be signed by both governments, and working together to address areas of mutual concern.
Minister Shahid is in New York accompanying President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, who has given his address at the UNGA, becoming the first Maldivian Head of State to address the gathering in the last seven years.
The annual sessions of the UNGA gather together the leaders of all UN Member State to discuss and deliberate on major global issues. The present session of the UNGA began on 17th September and will continue until the 30th.
