Expatriates have begun queuing up to get registered after the announcement of the new quota for unskilled foreign workers.
The Civil Service Commission has begun work to regulate the number of unregistered foreign workers on September 19.
Speaking on their work, the Economic Ministry stated that they have been giving out around 245 numbers every day for expatriates to get registered and that they run out of the numbers within two hours every day.
The Ministry stated that foreign workers will be given the opportunity to get registered and find a job via a card, valid for six months, being given out at the Civil Service Commission. The Ministry will also be keeping a registry of foreigners who are unqualified for registration.
In a recent press conference, Economic Minister Fayyaz Ismail said that there have been a number of foreigners who were brought in and let go by agencies after taking their money and that the government is providing them the opportunity to get registered and receive work.
