High Court Judge suspended regarding Rilwan's murder investigation

High Court Judge Hassan Ali has been suspended.

The Judicial Services Commission (JSC) announced its decision to suspend Judge Ali after a meeting on Monday.

In a statement on Monday, JSC revealed that the decision to suspend Judge Ali comes after an order from the Commission on Disappearances and Deaths, which has pinned accusations on the judge relating to the murder of Journalist Ahmed Rilwan Abdulla.

He is accused of being involved with two officers of the Maldives Police Service Intelligence Unit in forging travel documents in the case to prove that Rilwan had traveled to Syria and died in battle.

Back then Hassan Ali held the post of Immigration Controller.

Judge Ali was appointed to the High Court bench in March 2018.

Hassan had previously filled position of Registrar at the High Court as well as a controller at the Immigration office. He had later been appointed as Aasandha Company’s Managing Director upon his dismissal from the company in April last year.
