Addu City Council members have met with Defence Minister Mariya Didi to discuss the spread of religious extremism in the city.
In a tweet, the Ministry of Defence stated that the minister and councilors discussed the spread of extremism as well as other concerns.
The council had also expressed concern over the difficulties when facing natural disasters and the lack of an official vehicle for visiting dignitaries.
The Addu City Council stated that the meeting with Minister Didi has been a success and that they had shed light on extremism because there are extremists in the city recruiting people for foreign terrorist groups.
This comes after the presidential commission on deaths and disappearances revealed that journalist Ahmed Rilwan was kidnapped and killed by extremists and that one of them was an Addu native.
Raid operations were recently conducted on the instruction of the presidential commission, in which security forces searched two places in Addu City.
