Discussions held on expanding cooperation between Maldives and US, in many areas

Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid and United States Ambassador Alaina Teplitz have discussed expanding cooperation in the field of counter-terrorism and counter-radicalization.

During a meeting held on the sidelines of the 4th edition of the Indian Ocean Conference (IOC) at Paradise Island Resort, the pair held discussions on the existing bilateral relations and explored several areas of mutual cooperation.

Following the meeting, FM Shahid took to twitter, writing that the US is a “close partner” in Maldives efforts to keep Indian Ocean a “safe and peaceful” region, going on to express his gratitude to the US Ambassador for her continued support.

Further, FM Shahid expressed appreciation to the government of US for the continued efforts and assistance it has provided.

He also assured his commitment to increase cooperation between the two countries in several areas proven to be mutually beneficial.

FM Shahid was accompanied by Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Ahmed Khaleel, Foreign Secretary Abdul Ghafoor Mohamed, Director Shiuneen Rasheed and Assistant Director at the ministry, Fathmath Razana.
