Immigration has stated that the passports of 14 people have been withheld over the kidnapping and murder of journalist Ahmed Rilwan.
Immigration Controller Mohamed Ahmed Hussain told RaajjeMV that the passports were withheld on the request of the presidential commission on deaths and disappearances.
While anyone with a withheld passport will be unable to leave the country, the Immigration controller did not disclose the names of the people in question.
At Tuesday’s press briefing, commission head Husnu Suood said that former Vice President Ahmed Adeeb and two police officers had attempted to conceal Rilwan’s murder and that they are working with the Prosecutor General on charging them.
Suood said that the commission’s investigation has revealed that Rilwan was kidnapped, taken to a boat at sea, and killed by religious extremists.
