Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP)’s youth have passed a resolution to be forwarded to the party’s national congress.
Speaking to reporters after concluding the MDP youth congress, MP Mickail Naseem, the leader of the party’s youth group, said that the resolution proposes to amend the MDP regulations on internal elections.
The resolution states that only MDP members who registered to the party six months before a primary election can run in that election.
MP Naseem said that many of their congressmen noted that some members of other parties switch to MDP at the last minute to run in their party primaries to get the MDP ticket.
He said that the resolution was passed with votes from all present members, and that more than 10 amendments to the MDP youth group regulations were passed at the youth congress.
He also said that, while there were disagreements on some decisions, the congressmen were happy with how the youth congress went.
