The government’s progress is not slow and it has accomplished way more things than the previous government, states Jumhooree Party (JP) leader and MP for Maamigili constituency Qasim Ibrahim.
MP Qasim said this in defense of the government following complaints from a few that the government is “slow” in progress.
Speaking during a ceremony held in JP's campaign house Kunooz on Wednesday to officially hand over forms to new members of the party, the government coalition leader said that the previous governments of Abdulla Yameen as well as current parliament Speaker Mohamed Nasheed did not see much progress, even an year into their tenures.
In this regard, he said that those who believe the government of Ibrahim Mohamed Solih is too far behind must think about the progress of development that was brought to the country within the previous governments.
Highlighting the many loopholes, the previous governments have left by the time their tenures ended, Qasim said that President Solih is now tying up the loose ends.
“Hefty amounts of cash were lost with no traces of where it went. State companies have nothing. Island and atoll councils got nothing. Our pension funds were also taken by the government as debt security. The current government must not be disgraced for not carrying out particular things”Qasim Ibrahim![]()
In addition, MP Qasim stated that there is no reason to believe that the progress of the government is “slow” just because it hasn’t kicked off some projects, eight months in.
Stressing that the people have needs and requirements unfulfilled in plenty, Qasim pointed out that the current government had used most of the state funds to pay off hefty debts recorded during Yameen’s tenure, which hinders in speedy development.
However, Qasim assured the people that the government will surely fulfill the people’s needs and wishes once the debts are paid off.
