Former Housing Minister, Mohamed Muizzu has criticized the current administration’s decision to change the name of Rasrani Bageecha back to Sultan Park.

Muizzu was housing minister during former President Abdulla Yameen’s tenure, who reopened the park after major renovations in 2017, after changing its name.

Marking the second anniversary since it was reopened, on Wednesday, Muizzu tweeted that changing its name will not make the public forget the development brought by the former president.

Sultan Park -formerly the royal palace and its grounds- was opened in 1968 by then President Ibrahim Nasir, after the monarchy in the Maldives came to an end.

After 50 years, Yameen’s administration changed the name to Rasrani Bageecha. He faced immense criticism from the public, following his decision to change the name of the historic park.
