Maldives reached the one million tourist milestone on August 2, says Minister of Tourism Ali Waheed.
At a press conference on Wednesday, Minister Waheed said that 994,733 tourists visited Maldives by July, which is a 17.2% increase compared to the same period last year.
Minister Waheed said that the one millionth tourist visited Maldives on August 2 and that the ministry aims to bring in 1.5 million tourists by November 17.
He said that the best markets for Maldives tourism are China, India, Italy, UK, and Germany and that President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has set a target of 1.5 million tourist visitors for this year.
Ever since tourist arrivals began reaching a million, Maldives has been celebrating the arrival of the one millionth tourist visitor each year. The one millionth tourist in 2018 was a Turkish man who visited Maldives in September.
