Maldives Police Service (MPS) has arrested three individuals in connection to drug related cases.

While the three Maldivian men were arrested in capital city Malé during an operation conducted by the Drug Enforcement Department and Police Intelligence Unit, they were found in possession of a hefty number of drugs.

Arrested were a 25-year-old, 36-year-old and an 18-year-old.

Police revealed that the 25-year-old and the 36-year-old were arrested following a tip-off that they were involved in drug trafficking, a little past 8pm on Monday.

Officers found five bullets on one of them at the time of the arrest and a film cannister and cellophane piece suspected to contain narcotics upon searching one of their residences.

The 18-year-old was arrested after a tip-off that he was attempting to smuggle drugs into Maafushi Prison, a little past 11pm on Monday.

Police’s Drug Enforcement Department has taken on investigations into both cases.
