54 houses in Addu City have been damaged due to heavy rain and severe winds, states the Addu City Council.

The Council stated that the 54 houses sustained various types of damage and that the roofs of some houses have been completely damaged.

The Council has donated new roofs to the affected residents and the Defence Force are now helping to install the roofs.

The heavy rain and high winds have also caused 35 large trees in Addu to fall, states the Council, adding that they have now removed the trees and cleaned the affected areas.

There have been increasing reports of incidents due to the current rainy weather, and authorities have advised the public to take health and safety precautions to avoid spread of diseases and incidents at sea when travelling.
