HDh Kulhudhuffushi Airport will be accepting scheduled flights from national airline Maldivian starting Friday.
Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation stated it has opened the opportunity for other parties to register their flights to the airport.
The Ministry stated that more than one scheduled flight to the Kulhudhuffushi airport will be available.
Minister of Transport Aishath Nahula earlier said that the Kulhudhuffushi Airport will be open for Eid al-Adha and that many more airports will be open this year.
Kulhudhuffushi Airport has a runway measures 1,200 meters long and 30 meters wide.
The airport was opened, after a rushed development, by former President Abdulla Yameen near last year’s election in September, but it has not been used since the first test flight.
A large part of Kulhudhuffushi’s rare mangrove was reclaimed for the development, despite the Environmental Impact Assessment warning the previous government of long-term and irreversible destruction.
