Three motions on fishing were passed in parliament after being evaluated by the economic committee.

Parliament passed the motions on allowing foreign boats to come to Maldives to buy fish from local fishermen, allowing private parties with help of local councils to establish fish factories in islands, and establishing offshore platforms in regions where Maldivians fish.

Dhuvaafaru MP Ismail Ahmed’s motion to allow foreign boats to buy fish from Maldivian fishermen was passed with 66 votes in favor.

Thoddoo MP Hassan Shiyan’s motion on allowing private parties establish fish factories in islands with councils was passed with 72 votes in favor.

Central Maafannu MP Ibrahim Rasheed’s motion to establish offshore platforms in regions where Maldivians fish was passed with 72 votes in favor.

The motions were proposed during the debates to include relevant details in the Fishermen’s Bill.
