Five parliamentarians have sought security after receiving continuous threats, revealed the People’s Majlis.

Reliant sources revealed to RaajjeMV that parliamentarians representing main ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) had recently been threatened.

Parliament’s Secretary General Fathmath Niusha told RaajjeMV that Majlis has requested the Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) for security following the request from said five members.

However, she did not reveal names of MPs who have been threatened.

It is MNDF's responsibility to provide security for parliamentarians, if requested.

Following death threats during 2014, MNDF had provided security for four members representing then opposition MDP. The presidential inquiry commission on enforced disappearances and unresolved murders had earlier revealed that they had identified those who were behind threatening MPs back then.
