Parliament has passed an amendment to the National University Act to reduce political influence.
The amendment was passed at Wednesday’s sitting with 65 votes in favor.
The purpose of the amendment is to reduce political influence in its management by allowing the President to only appoint the Chancellor and Vice Chancellor.
The parliament committee which evaluated the bill had met with senior officials of the universities and had also opened the bill for public opinion.
