Six candidates have applied for the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) reserved for a lawyers’ representative.
Bar Council has scheduled the election for Saturday.
The candidates are: Ali Rasheed, Abdul Maaniu Hussain, Ahmed Nasheed Hussain, Mariyam Haneefa Khalid, Abdul Hannan, and Abdul Azeez Jamal, who recently completed his term as Information Commissioner.
The recent ratification of the Legal Profession Act resulted in the establishment of the Bar Council, which is tasked with holding the election to choose a new JSC member.
Latheefa Gasim lost her post as lawyers’ representative at the JSC after the ratification of the Legal Profession Act.
