Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has decided to review their investigation of Drug Court judge Mahaz Ali Zahir.

In a press release on Monday, JSC stated that it had investigated a disciplinary complaint against Judge Zahir in 2015 and that it will be reviewed by a committee, as requested by Judge Zahir.

The committee consists of JSC members Masthoor Husnee, Hisaan Hussain, Dr Ali Shameem, Speaker Mohamed Nasheed, and Attorney General Ibrahim Riffath.

The complaint is over Judge Zahir writing in his blog that a criminal case cannot proceed in the absence of a Prosecutor General and a Deputy Prosecutor General. This was at a time when the position of Prosecutor General was empty.

He was summoned and warned by the JSC over the issue.

In a recent letter to JSC President Abdulla Areef, Judge Zahid said he is confused as to what he had done wrong and that JSC had neglected to conduct a proper investigation by not having the required number of members involved in the probe.
