Parliament’s decentralization committee has decided to summon Local Government Authority (LGA) board members next week over the previous government’s decision to penalize councilors.
North Mahchangolhi MP Mohamed Rasheed submitted the proposal at Monday’s committee meeting.
MP Rasheed said that many councilors were penalized by the previous government and that LGA board members should be summoned to be questioned about the details.
At the committee meeting, Thulhaadhoo MP Hisaan Hussain said the reasons behind some of LGA’s decisions to penalize councilors are unclear and proposed to establish a sub-committee to investigate LGA’s penalization of 106 councilors between 2015 and 2018.
The committee approved MP Hisaan’s proposal and formed a three-member sub-committee consisting of MP Hisaan, MP Rasheed, and Ungoofaaru MP Mohamed Waheed.
The committee will summon LGA board members next week after concluding their investigation.
