Member of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Aminath Minna has been appointed as its vice president.

The appointment was made following Muavviz Rasheed’s appointment to the post of ACC President. Muavviz was previously the Vice President of the commission.

ACC revealed that they made the appointment with the backing from all members.

These appointments are followed by Hassan Luthufee’s resignation in early July, after the parliament’s committee on independent institution voted to dismiss him for taking his monthly salary despite being absent from work. While Luthufee was absent from work for over five months prior to his resignation, Muavviz had been the acting head.

Luthufee has been accused of helping former President Abdulla Yameen escape his money laundering charge by trying to keep Yameen’s bank account from being frozen and allow the one million US dollars Yameen received from MMPRC to be transferred to an escrow account during ACC’s investigation.

The police service has confirmed that it is investigating a money laundering case involving Luthufee.

Minna was sworn in as a member of the commission in September 2014.
