VP urged ministry to take the concerns and priorities of students, parents and teachers into account

Senior officials from the Ministry of Education and school principals from the Greater Malé Region have briefed Vice President Faisal Naseem on the pressing issues surfacing for the country’s education sector.

This was done during a meeting held at the President’s Office on Thursday morning between ministry officials, school heads and the Vice President.

Requesting the government to review the salary scales and benefits offered to local education officials, some of the school principals highlighted that schools require more resources in order to meet the needs and expectations of their students.

They asked for certain administrative and structural reforms that would positively affect daily functions at the school.

Further, they urged the government to bring about the necessary changes where they are required and to take into account the difficulties teachers and education officials face in acquiring housing loans.

Expressing his gratitude for the hard work being done by the education sector, VP Naseem noted their “essential” role in raising a new generation of Maldivians capable of “positively” contributing to the country’s well-being.

The Vice President went on to note that he would do everything in his power to resolve all the issues and concerns highlighted by the education officials.

He went on to urge the officials to take the concerns and priorities of students, parents and teachers into account while fulfilling their responsibilities.

Stating that the government understands that education is of paramount importance, Naseem said that they are committed to ensure that all Maldivians have fair and affordable access to high-quality education. He stated that the government welcomes the input of all those involved for the progress of the sector.
