Economic Minister emphasizes importance of projects that benefit public

The current government is focused more on projects that benefit the public, says Economic Minister Fayyaz Ismail.

At a press conference on Sunday, Minister Fayyaz Ismail said eliminating the obstructions on businesses and giving them more freedom will help the economy.

Highlighting the importance of mega projects, the Minister said that such projects come under infrastructure development, adding that Gulhifalhu is a large project that will have a tremendous impact on the economy.

He said that developing the commercial harbor will also have a positive impact on businesses since it would solve the current slow service and high prices.

He said that the success of the transshipment port project will also allow Maldives to rely less on tourism.

The Minister added that projects to develop local tourism are also crucial and that the government will allow islands to develop guesthouses.
