Maldives will always defend the rule of law and justice in its position in the international community, says President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.

President Solih made this remark during an address at the Inauguration ceremony of the Annual Meeting of Maldivian Ambassadors on Wednesday morning.

Further, he said that although Maldives has a small populace, it remains a resilient country in facing every challenge that surfaces.

As such, President Solih stated that the diplomacy policies of the Maldives also revolve around maintaining justice, equality and upholding the rule of law.

President Solih went on to add that the biggest responsibility of Maldivian ambassadors is securing peace among Maldives and its people. As such, the most important responsibility of Maldivian embassies stationed across the globe is to address the challenges the Maldivian community in the respective country faces, and provide effective solutions.

He further stated that he believes his government’s “overreaching” foreign policy vision is the country’s biggest security and ambassadors play a big role in enhancing foreign relations that may have soured over the years.

The government highly prioritizes paving efficient ways to facilitate Maldivian students living abroad, and Maldivian ambassadors play an important role in this factor as well.

Solih further assured ambassadors that they have his full support in assisting them in their work and resolve and confront challenges they face.

Also during the ceremony, Solih highlighted many achievements of his administration in regards to using its foreign policy to improve Maldives socioeconomic welfare. As such, under his governance, Maldives has managed to increase the inflow of tourists which led to an economic growth.

Maldives has also signed several development projects with its partners across the globe, targeting to enhance the nation’s infrastructure and the provision of social services.

Noting that Maldives should always be a country that looks forward to global trends and actively participates in the shaping of international discourse, Solih stated that Maldives must strive to maintain its position as a respected member of the world community, an endeavor to which the Heads of Mission must contribute.
