President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has extended an invitation to the Prime Minister of Japan, Abe Shinzo to embark on an official visit to Maldives at a time of mutual convenience for both parties.

The president extended the invitation during a courtesy call paid on him by the Special Advisor of the Prime Minister of Japan, Kentaro Sonoura, at the President’s Office on Tuesday.

Also at the meeting, President Solih acknowledged "the substantial contribution made by Japan towards the Maldives' socio-economic betterment and for the recent generous assistance of a Fire Boat and Landing Craft, worth of 500,000,000 Japanese Yen."

While Solih expressed his gratitude to the Japanese Special Advisor for his participation and input at the Maldives Partnership Forum which concluded on Tuesday, he also shed light on the “deep affection” the Japanese government and people have always held for the people and government of Maldives.

Further, Solih also expressed gratitude for the generous assistance provided by the Japanese government recently by gifting a fire boat and a landing craft worth of 500,000,000 Japanese Yen.

President’s Office further revealed that discussions were held regarding Solih’s visit to Japan, which has been scheduled for later this year.
