Action has been taken against those responsible for three major accidents in the capital city.
Police said that the transport ministry has taken action against the three individuals responsible, after it forwarded the cases to the ministry.
All three accidents are non-injury collisions, are to have taken place on the Malé-Hulhumalé highway or link road.
The first one took place on June 4, with a car crashing into the dividers on the highway. While his license has been suspended for a year, he was additionally fined for attempting to hide the matter from authorities.
While a driver of a car had lost control and crashed into the wall of the Marine Research Center on June 7, his license has been suspended for one year and six months.
The third accident took place on June 8, also with a car crashing into dividers on the Malé-Hulhumalé highway. His license has been suspended for a year.
Maldives Police Service had, in January, revealed that it will be pursuing criminal charges for ‘dangerous’ collisions that damages public property or causes self-injury.
Negligence and endangering property are criminally liable acts under the Maldivian penal code.
