Maldives imported goods worth MVR 3.6 billion during May

The Maldives Customs Service revealed that Maldives had exported goods worth of MVR 3.6 billion during the month of May.

Customs revealed through their month-end statistics that the CIF value of goods imported during last May had increased by four percent with the state having exported goods worth MVR 3.5 billion the same period last year.

While the state had exported approximately MVR 205 million worth of goods during the same period in 2018, this year during May, export reached MVR 232 million which is a 13 percent increase.

The statistics also reveal that customs revenue increased by 15 percent during this year May, recorded at MVR 271 million while the figure was just MVR 236 million last year.

A total of MVR 271 million was collected through customs duty last month and the total revenue collected through customs duty and other fees and fines during May 2019 had increased by 15 percent compared to that of May 2018.

While major importing countries were also publicized through the statistics, the top importer is China, which imported 802 million goods. Second came the United Arab Emirates at 761 million. Singapore followed as third at 426 million with India and Sri Lanka coming last at 295 million and 202 million respectively.

According to statistics, imports have been recorded with a four percent increase including fuel import at MVR 3.6 billion.

Further, the state exported 109 million goods to Thailand, 27 million to Germany, 19 million to France, 13 million to the United States and 10 million to Vietnam.

Maldives had imported goods worth MVR 4.1 billion during April 2018.
