Set to depart from Maldives on Tuesday night

Sri Lankan parliamentarian and one of the three sons of former President of Sri Lanka Mahinda Rajapaksa, Namal Rajapaksa has visited privately-run news broadcaster Raajje Television.

During his ongoing visit to Maldives, which began on Monday morning, the politician visited RaajjeTV premises on Tuesday afternoon where he gave an exclusive interview.

Upon arriving in Maldives, he was received at Velana International Airport by Minister of Youth, Sports and Community Empowerment Ahmed Mahloof. He had also called on President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih on Monday.

Further, Namal met with several government officials as well as journalists on Monday.

While the former First Son has been conducting meetings since his arrival on Monday morning, some of the meetings include with Minister Mahloof, Minister of Defense and National Security, Mariya Ahmed Didi, Minister of Finance, Ibrahim Ameer as well as Minister of Economic Development, Fayyaz Ismail.

MP Rajapaksa also met with Vice President Faisal Naseem on Monday, and discussed the VP’s experiences in Sri Lanka and the shared context of Maldives and Sri Lanka.

Further, he met with former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom, who has been a close friend of his father, ex-President Rajapaksa, on Tuesday. He went on to write that he has always been humbled by Gayoom’s wealth of knowledge.

He met with Speaker of Parliament, former President Mohamed Nasheed on Tuesday afternoon. Taking to twitter afterwards, Rajapaksa wrote that he "truly enjoyed" exchanging ideas and terms of shared concerns for the protection of marine life, with the former president.

Rajapaksa is set to conclude his trip to Maldives and return to Sri Lanka on Tuesday night.

MP Rajapaksa's exclusive interview is to be aired at 7pm on Friday.
