Baarah MP Ahmed Abdulla has said that reform can be achieved in the 19th parliament.
Speaking on RaajjeTV’s Fala Surukhee show, MP Abdulla said that the parliamentarians will do whatever it takes to achieve reform and good government.
Highlighting the importance of institutions, the MP said that members of independent institutions who do not fulfill their responsibilities should be dismissed.
Central Henveiru MP Ali Azim has claimed that members of independent institutions tend to obey the whim of whatever government is present at the time.
The broadcasting commission, elections commission, and the anti-corruption commission have been repeatedly criticized by the public, and some of their members were seen campaigning for former President Abdulla Yameen in the last election.
On RaajjeTV’s show, MP Abdulla said that the parliament committees will establish means to take action against commissions that refuse to fulfill their mandate.
He also said that, unlike the previous term, the 19th parliament will allow the opposition to be equally heard and that any senior government official who neglect their responsibilities will be held accountable no matter their political affiliation.
