A hefty amount of cash has been mugged from capital city Malé’s suburban extension Hulhumale.
Media official at the Maldives Police Service (MPS), revealed that the mugging took place near City Online Asia in Hulhumale when four individuals riding two motorcycles stopped a man and mugged MVR 150,000 and USG 15,000 from him.
Police reported that the muggers were masked underneath helmets.
While police received the robbery report in the late hours of Tuesday, RaajjeMV understands that the four individuals had assaulted the man and damaged his motorcycle during the robbery.
Even though authorities are yet to make any arrests in connection to the robbery, police revealed that they are investigating the case.
While cases of theft and robbery are observed to be on the rise during the fasting month of Ramadan, so far this year, police statistics revealed that 1,662 cases of theft and 175 mugging cases.
