The second sitting of the newly commenced 19th Parliament is to be held on Wednesday where the Majlis will be deciding on Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's request to give a speech at the Parliament during his upcoming visit to Maldives.
In his first speech since being elected speaker on Tuesday night, Nasheed also said the Majlis will elect a parliamentarian to the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) at Wednesday's sitting.
The newly elected Parliament Speaker went on to express his gratitude towards the previous tenure’s Speaker, Abdulla Maseeh as well as Qasim Ibrahim for their exemplary efforts to preserve the Parliament procedures.
He said that Qasim had put in his best efforts to uphold the Maldives Constitution during his time as Speaker.
Further, Nasheed highlighted that the previous tenure’s Deputy Speaker, Moosa Manik had also upheld his duties responsibly.
Stressing that although some members of the 18th Parliament were not elected to a new tenure, Nasheed went on to express his hope that the new members will give their best to uphold their duties to the Parliament.
Speaker Nasheed went on to express his hope that he will be able to work diligently with the members during the fresh new tenure and that they will give their best to make this ongoing tenure, a success.
