Council members of Naifaru island in Lhaviyani atoll have briefed President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih on the several development projects they have proposed for the island.

At a meeting on Sunday morning at the President’s Office, council members discussed the priorities and concerns that have been surfacing for the island's residents in various areas.

Shedding light on some of the issues, council members noted that the island needs a speedier water and sewerage system plantation and the difficulties the community faces due to the shortage of land and lack of housing units for the residents.

Noting the issues for staff at the Naifaru Hospital due to the lack of facilities there, the councilors further shared social issues the youth community faces as a youth center is yet to be established on the island.

Further, councilors went on to highlight the concerns of Naifaru School employees as well as the Family and Children Protection Unit of the Ministry of Gender, Family and Social Services in the island.

Listening to their concerns, President Solih had assured the councilors that his government will take the required action after holding discussions with the relevant ministries to address the issues at hand. As such, the administration will form a development plan to tackle the difficulties the island community faces, the President assured.

Earlier, President Solih had assured the people that no island will be left out of his government’s development plan.
