I have President Solih's full support, says parliament speaker hopeful
 
MDP PG will be taking a vote to elect members to contest for the seats of Parliament Speaker and Deputy Speaker
 
Aslam has the full support from the members of MDP’s PG.

Member of Parliament for North-Hithadhoo constituency, Mohamed Aslam has stated that he has President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s full support to become parliament speaker.

This comes a day after it was reported that President Solih has been lobbying form MP-elect for Vilufushi constituency, Hassan Afeef, for the post.

Aslam said that he has full confidence that the president will support him, if his name is in the speaker race; a number of Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) MPs have expressed interest in becoming speaker.

Aslam, who is also the the current parliamentary group leader of MDP, noted that the group supports him for parliament's highest post.

The five ruling party members who have expressed interested for the post of Parliament Speaker are, Aslam, MP for Addu-Meedhoo constituency, Rozaina Adam, MP for Maradhoo constituency, Ibrahim Shareef, Vilufushi MP Afeef and central-Henveiru constituency MP Ali Azim.

MDP's nomination for speaker and deputy, will be elected through a vote.
