Former ruling Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) is yet to pay MVR 3.8 million owed to Maldives' national carrier, Maldivian.
The party had chartered flights from Maldivian to bring supporters to the capital for a mass rally, during the campaign for the 2018 presidential elections.
While PPM owes Island Aviation Services (IAS), which runs Maldivian, MVR 4.8 million, the party had settled MVR one million out of the total sum shortly after a case was filed at court.
Following the failure to pay the remaining amount, Civil Court had in February this year, ordered PPM to pay the company.
While the money is to be paid via the Civil Court, Maldivian is yet to receive the MVR 3.8 million owed by PPM.
Maldivian’s Communications and PR Manager Moosa Waseem told RaajjeMV that it is not clear whether the court has received the money, either.
While PPM had previously claimed that it will clear up the debt after it receives the funds withheld by the Elections Commission, the finance ministry had released the MVR 8.4 million to PPM on May 2.
RaajjeMV was unable to get a comment from PPM, at the time of publishing.
