Vice President calls on employers to give priority to Maldivians, when hiring
 
He said it was also important to have experienced foreign workers in Maldives

Vice President Faisal Naseem has said that Maldives has a young educated population and urges employers to hire locally.

Speaking at the 10th yearly Employment Tribunal ceremony, the Vice President said that everyone is equal in the job market and that most societal issues arise due to a lack of fairness.

He said that institutions need disciplined and honest employees and that institutions also need to be fair in their treatment of employees in order for them to achieve their full potential. Noting the high number of foreign workers in Maldives, Vice President Faisal said that some companies have foreigners in executive positions because it was also important that Maldivians work with experienced people from other countries for the development the nation.

However, highlighting that Maldives has a young and educated population, Faisal urged employers to focus on the locals during their hiring process. He added that establishing the minimum wage is a special priority of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.

In the speech, Vice President Faisal also highlighted the importance of strengthening the economy by increasing the involvement of Maldivians.
