The house was raided under a court order on Saturday

Maldives Police Service (MPS) has arrested five Maldivians from capital city Malé for the illegal possession of drugs.

During an operation conducted by the Drug Enforcement Department and Police Intelligence in their efforts to bring an end to drug trafficking, officers confiscated the drugs from a house in Mahchangoalhi-ward of the capital city.

According to the police, their intelligence unit had carried out the investigation after being tipped of that drugs were being held in the house. During the operation, police arrested a minor, a 20-year-old, a 29-year-old, a 30-year-old and a 44-year-old.

The house was raided under a court order on Saturday and officers confiscated 379 rubber packets suspected to contain narcotic substances.
