No complaints received regarding Maldivians in Sri Lanka: Ambassador
He said that Maldivians in Sri Lanka are being treated fairly

Maldives Ambassador to Sri Lanka Omar Abdul Razzaq has said that Sri Lankan authorities have no complaints regarding Maldivian residents.

While Sri Lankan authorities are continuing their search operation after the terror attacks on April 21, the Ambassador said that they have not disclosed any concern over Maldivians living in the country.

Ambassador Razzaq highlighted the close relationship between the two countries and said that Maldivians in Sri Lanka are being treated fairly. However, he said that this is a difficult time for anyone living in the country, both Maldivians and Sri Lankans.

He said that Sri Lankan authorities have mainly found Maldivians with expired visas and so urges everyone to check whether their papers are in order.

Sri Lanka has over 20,000 Maldivians residents, making it the largest Maldivian community outside of the native country.

Sri Lankan authorities currently have six Maldivians in remand and released four others during their operation.

The terror attacks on Easter Sunday targeted Sri Lankan churches and luxury hotels, leaving over 250 dead and 500 injured.
