President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has lifted the suspension of Maldives Water and Sewerage Company (MWSC)’s Chairman Ahmed Mausoom and Board Member of Island Aviation Services, Abdulla Azim.
Both were suspended over their alleged involvement in the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) embezzlement scandal, the biggest case of graft recorded in Maldives history which saw MVR 1.4 billion misappropriated from the state funds.
Spokesperson at the President’s Office, Ibrahim Hoodh revealed that their suspension was lifted on Tuesday.
President Solih suspended Mausoom after the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC)’s report on the MMPRC embezzled funds was publicized, in February. The reports alleged that two companies in which Mausoom has a share in, had received the embezzled funds. The two private companies are CGT and MC Maldives.
Following the allegations, Mausoom had initially released a statement pressing concern and denying all accusations against him.
The corruption watchdog’s report implicates Azim in those who received embezzled funds through Scores of Flair as well.
After their suspension was lifted, both Mausoom and Azim had resumed work.
