The Supreme Court has given RaajjeTV permission to attend court hearings and court-related events, after a five-month ban.

The privately-owned TV station was banned from covering court hearings and court-related events in November of last year.

At the time, the Department of Judicial Administration (DJA) stated that RaajjeTV was banned over a statement made on one of its shows.

Following the ban, Maldives Broadcasting Commission said that RaajjeTV had not violated the broadcasting code of practice.

RaajjeTV has since sent two letters requesting that they be given permission to attend and report on court hearing and judicial events.

In a response letter, DJA stated that the Supreme Court has reversed the ban based on the points made in RaajjeTV’s letter.
