New Vice Presidents have been appointed to the opposition Progressive Party of the Maldives (PPM).
Appointed are former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom’s son, MP elect Mohamed Ghassan Maumoon, former Minister of Housing and Infrastructure, Dr. Mohamed Muizzu and current MP for Naifaru constituency Ahmed Shiyam.
The announcement of the appointments were made through twitter by the party’s former deputy leader and current president of its coalition partner, recently formed People’s National Congress (PNC), Abdul Raheem Abdulla.
Congratulating the three elected VPs, Raheem wished the party success with the new leadership.
Recently resigned leader of the party’s parliamentary group, Ahmed Nihan Hussain Manik also took to twitter congratulating the three and expressing his confidence that they will “deliver PPM to new heights.” However, previously Nihan had been against the appointment of Ghassaan Maumoon as deputy. Responding to a tweet saying that Ghassaan would be good for the post, following Nihan's resignment, the MP had replied "not at all."
Former vice presidents of the party include Raheem, former Legal Affairs Minister at the President's Office, Azima Shakoor, former Economic Minister Mohamed Saeed and former Tourism Minister Moosa Zameer.
