Maldives Meteorological Service has issued a white alert over Huvadhu atoll to Addu City on Tuesday.
Foreseeing turbulent weather across the region, MET department issued the white alert from 6pm to 11pm on Tuesday.
While heavy rains and thunderstorms are expected, capital city Malé had experienced a continued thunderstorm on early Tuesday.
Maldives experienced rain after an elongated dry season, about two days back.
While seas are expected to be slight to moderate over the region, the department also predicted surface winds to vary between west to north-westerly at five to 15 miles per hour.
The country had been experiencing insufferably hot weather for the past few weeks following which the Ministry of Islamic Affairs had even arranged to carry out an Istisqa, a prayer seeking rainfall during times of drought. Rain clouds had brewed over the country on late Monday and the Greater Malé region experienced a heavy thundershower in the late hours of Monday.
