Maldives Police Service (MPS) has arrested one out of the two men who had fled after an attempted rape at a guesthouse in capital city Malé on Thursday.
Police revealed that the 33-year-old individual was arrested under a court order on Saturday night. Police did not reveal further details about the man.
Officers patrolling Maafannu-ward of the capital city had entered the guesthouse after hearing a woman screaming and found four men attempting rape. Two out of the four men had fled the scene and police arrested the other two aged 32 and 33.
While police are locating the other man who escaped, one of the suspects (32) had been released on Saturday under a Criminal Court order. The other, 33, had been remanded for five days on Friday. Officers also found alleged alcoholic beverages at the scene.
