Police Commissioner praises officers responding to Malé house fire
The fire at Red Pearl, in Galolhu ward, was reported at about 3:45am on Wednesday
The fire was quelled at about 4:30am

Police Commissioner Mohamed Hameed has praised officers who responded to a house fire in capital city Malé and evacuated the home. 

The fire at Red Pearl, in Galolhu ward, was reported at about 3:45am on Wednesday, and six people were vacated from the house. 

“Exceptional courage and bravery shown by these officers to save 6 people from harms way” Commissioner Hameed’s tweet says.

The Maldives National Defence Force said they believe that the fire originated around a wooden staircase near the second floor of the house. 

The fire was quelled at about 4:30am, and the six people evacuated from the home were treated for signs of smoke inhalation. 

Officials from the National Disaster Management Authority were also active at the scene.
