Parliamentary election results in Maavah constituency remains unchanged after vote recount
Outcome of Saturday’s parliamentary election in Maavah constituency remains unchanged even after vote recount.
The Elections Commission of the Maldives’s (ECM) interim result for the constituency after the recount show a difference of five votes.
Former Finance Minister Mohamed Saeed, who contested through the opposition People’s National Congress, won over Ibrahim Falah, a pro-government candidate; they acquired 853 and 848 votes respectively.
ECM carried out a recount for the Maamigili constituency as well and although the outcome remains unchanged, the difference is stark.
The total vote count for incumbent MP Qasim Ibrahim, who was his bid for reelection, increased by 64 votes, and the vote count for the Maldivian Democratic Party’s candidate Ali Azim increased by 45.
ECM says that they have received 21 complaints regarding the parliamentary election, the bulk of which have to do with the voter’s registry, four complaints over conduct inside polling stations, and two complaints over reported bribery.
