ECM to recount three ballot boxes in Maavah constituency
Interim results show PNC's Saeed taking the Maavah constituency seat, while MDP's Falaah is in close second place; with a difference of six votes

Elections Commission of the Maldives (ECM) has decided to recount three ballot boxes in Maavah constituency.

The Commission made the announcement at a press conference on Monday, before it began announcing the interim results of Saturday’s parliamentary election.

Elections Commissioner Ahmed Shareef said that the Commission has decided to do a recount in one constituency where a number of candidates contested, adding that current projections show a slight difference in votes.

However, he did not reveal the constituency.

RaajjeMV understands that ECM is recounting three ballot boxes in Maavah constituency; while four candidates contested, the winner took the seat with a difference of six votes.

According to ECM’s interim results, the current winner of the constituency, with 853 votes is the previous administrations economic minister, People’s National Congress (PNC)’s Mohamed Saeed. In second place is ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP)’s Ibrahim Falaah, with 847 votes. Invalid votes are 30.

Speaking further at the press conference, Shareef said that ECM had received a total of 21 complaints regarding the parliamentary elections, and that 15 of them are re-registration issues. Four of the complaints were regarding the voting process while the remaining two were over voter buying.
