Officials from the Human Rights Commission of the Maldives (HRCM) have visited Malé jail on Thursday.

They were accompanied by four members of Parliament.

The visit comes as part of an inspection being carried out to see if any misconducts or mistreatment of prisoners are observed. Officials observed whether of not convicts are receiving rights guaranteed to them at prison.

In addition, they also inquired on the condition of the facility as well as the challenges being faced by prison employees.

HRCM further revealed that the visit is to acknowledge some of the concerning things that have not yet been implemented by the facility.

Following the visit, they will be forwarding the issues noticed at the facility, to the relevant institutions.
