The Ministry of Health has said that they will be developing the atoll hospital in Thinadhoo island of Gaafu Dhaal atoll to 'tertiary standards'.
The Dr. Abdul Samad Memorial Hospital is a secondary hospital, and is the first referral point from health centers in islands across Gaafu Dhaal atoll.
A new building will be developed to supplement the existing premises, which ministry officials said on Sunday was declared unfeasable.
Public tender for contractors has already been announced, and the supplementary premises will be large enough to hold 100-beds as well as procedure rooms.
The ministry says that the new building will be lain with future expansion in mind, adding that they will be hiring health professionals once the building is complete.
In hiring, priority will be given to Maldivians, the ministry says.
