Keeping coalition partners satisfied 'has been the biggest challenge,' says president
The ruling coalition comprises of four parties; Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), Jumhooree Party (JP), Adhaalath Party (AP) and Maldives Reform Movement (MRM)

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has on Wednesday said that his biggest challenge since assuming office has been keeping the ruling coalition partners satisfied.

While the current ruling coalition comprises of four parties, President Solih in an interview to RaajjeTV on Wednesday said that all four want to appoint their members to posts.

He noted that they are displeased when he is unable to do so, adding that they even show their dissatisfaction in public.

“This has been the biggest challenge [I had] to overcome,” said the president.

President Solih also highlighted his biggest accomplishment thus far, during his first TV interview since becoming president.

This includes; introduction of paid six-month maternity and one-month paternity leaves and free undergraduate degrees. He added that lowering the interest rate for loans taken to study overseas has been one of the most important work of his administration.
