Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) has withdrawn support for its parliamentary candidate for Thulhaadhoo constituency, Mohamed Athif.
The opposition party made the decision over an incident where he had stopped members of the opposition Progressive Coalition from entering their office.
At a press conference on Tuesday, People’s National Congress (PNC) President Abdul Raheem Abdulla said that they withdrew support after Athif stopped them from entering their office over a discussion they had, and that he expects the disciplinary committee to look into the matter.
The opposition coalition now supports Thulhadhoo’s independent candidate Mohamed Zaheen.
RaajjeMV has been unable to get a word from Athif.
A total of four candidates are vying for the Thulhaadhoo seat, including prominent attorney and main ruling party MDP’s candidate Hisaan Hussain.
